Award winning producers and rap duo Play-N-Skillz consist
of brothers, Juan "Play" and Oscar "Skillz" Salinas who hail from Irving,
Texas. They have been gaining heavy
recognition as A-list producers having worked with some of the top names in the
industry including 50 Cent, Pitbull, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Hilary Duff, Slim
Thug, Nina Sky and Lil’ Flip to name a few. Play-N-Skillz reached the pinnacle of
their producing success in the summer of 2006 when they produced and co-wrote
Chamillionaire’s Hip-hop anthem “Ridin” (Dirty) which became
the
most requested song of the year soaring to the top of the urban, hip-hop and
mainstream radio charts as well as became
the biggest selling ringtone of all time selling over 4 million ringtones. “Ridin” (Dirty) was certified by the
RIAA as the first multi-platinum Mastertone in history and earned Play-N-Skillz
a GRAMMY.
In
the summer of 2007, Play-N-Skillz produced another Hip-hop anthem, So Krispy by Kia Shine as well as
Pitbull’s sexy hit Secret Admirer
feat Lloyd and the With Love remix
for Hilary Duff, which paired her up with Slim Thug. Currently, Play-N-Skillz are in the
studio working on their second album The
Titaniq” which will be released on their record label G4
Recordz/Asylum. Play-N-Skillz are
focusing on building an empire and are grooming G4
Recordz to become the next big label to take over the music industry by signing
up and coming rapper Lumba and R&B crooner Reyez.
Play-N-Skillz
began their career in music as DJ’s and quickly discovered their talent for
making beats. After a chance
meeting with Texas based rapper Lil’ Flip – Play-N-Skillz
produced 12 tracks on his Multi-Platinum album U Gotta Feel Me and scored a publishing
deal with EMI Publishing and a reputation for making hit
records.
After
working with rappers and MC’s who lacked commitment and passion, Play-N-Skillz
decided to try their hand as MC’s and entertainers and leaked a
single entitled Freaks feat Krayzie
Bone and Adina Howard to the local radio station in Dallas. Freaks began getting consistent play on
radio stations across the nation and garnered over 3,000 spins per week in major
markets like Los Angeles and New York.
Several major record labels showed interest and Play-N-Skillz decided to
sign with Universal Records. They
released their debut album The
Process in 2004, which featured appearances from Three 6 Mafia, Akon, Lil
Flip, Static, Krayzie Bone, Adina Howard, Layzie Bone, Frankie J., and
Chamillionaire. Play-N-Skillz
became the first credible Latin artists from the South with the ability to rap
and produce and were quickly embraced by the Latino community. The duo released
two singles and shot two music video’s for the album, Freaks/Call Me and Latino’s Stand Up which received consistent play on MTV and BET.
Currently,
Play-N-Skillz are one of the most sought after producers in the business and
have been featured in The Source Magazine, XXL Magazine, Scratch Magazine,
AllHipHop.com, Sohh.com, MTV – Sucker Free, BET- Rap City and The Dallas Morning
News to name a few. |
